Seniors

--Seniors who pre-purchase their yearbooks by December 1st will receive an invitation to the Senior Signing Breakfast at delivery.  Purchase your yearbooks online for $65.00 today.

--Senior interested in purchasing an Ad for the yearbook need to do so by December 1st in Room 217.  Time is running out to reserve your place in the yearbook.

Events

--The Brooke Point Choruses will present their 12th Annual Renaissance Feaste Saturday and Sunday, December 12th & 13th, beginning at 5:00 PM in Commons 2.  The Feaste will feature food, music, and light drama.  Tickets are on sale now for $25.00 per person.  Reservations must be postmarked by November 30th.  Contact Reese Flory for additional information at either 540.658.6080 x1552, or Florywr@Staffordschools.net.

Clubs


--DECA members interested in competing in the District Leadership Conference on January 5, 2010, are asked to see Mrs. Rose in Room 246 to sign up for the event.

--All paid DECA members interested in fashion and attending the Visual Merchandizing Field Trip to New York City on December 5, 2009, should see Mrs. Rose in Room 246 as soon as possible for more information.

--The Yound Republicans will meet every Wednesday after school in Room 110.  You'll want to see Mr. Coen in Room 110 if you have questions about the group.

--HOSA is conducting its Annual Coat Drive to support our mental health community.  Don't miss this opportunity to clean out those closets and get rid of adult and teen-sized coats your family no longer wears.  The FCCLA is also participating in this year's drive.  They'll be collecting children's size coats.  HOSA is also collecting adult-sized hats and gloves.  So bring your clean, useable jackets and coats to Room 409 at the end of Technology Street.

--The FBLA will be going to the Washington Wizards' Career Day on December 4th.  Members planning to attend the event will need to deliver their permission forms and money to Mrs. Whitehouse in Room 117 as soon as possible.

--The new club, Youth of Virginia Speak Out, meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 2:30 PM in Room 403.  If you'd like to become a teen traffic safety advocate, or educate teens about traffic safety, this may be the group for you.  YOVASO welcomes new members to the group.

Sports

--There are no continuing sports announcements today.

Academic

--The Spanish Honor Society will offer Spanish tutoring every Wednesday from 2:30-3:00 PM in Room 342.  You should have your rides here by 3:00 PM or plan to ride the Activity Bus. 

--Colleges have already scheduled visits to BPHS.  Juniors and Seniors may check listings located on the Counseling Office door and the Counseling Bulletin Board located outside the Attendance Office or in the Counseling Office.  You may sign up for college visits wiht Mrs. Gose in the Counseling Office.  And be sure to check the list often for new postings.

Special


--The Brooke Point student-run branch of the Apple Federal Credit Union is now open for business.  It will be open thoughout the year on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during all lunch shifts and after school on Monday and Wednesday from 2:20 until 2:50 PM.  The Credit Union is located in Commons 2.  Everyone is invited to stop by and get more information.

--Yearbooks are now being sold online for $65.00.  Order today for the lowest price of the year.

--The Apple Federal Credit Union is raffling off a brand new i-pod Nano.  To enter, all you need to do is make a $5.00 deposit.  You'll be entered into the drawing for every $5.00 deposit you make between now and January 22nd, 2010.  So it looks like there's no better time to start saving for your future.

--Students are reminded that Cafeteria Trays are not trash and should not be thrown into the garbage.  Thank you.

--Students and teachers are encouraged to recycle trash throughout the building again this year.  But the process has been made easier.  All recyclables are to be placed in one bin.  That includes paper, aluminum soda cans, glass, and plastic bottles.  All trash contaminated with food and any plastics other than soda bottles will be put in the regular trash receptacles.  Thank you.





Seniors

--Senior T-shirts and Hoodies have arrived and my be picked up before or after school in the 2nd Floor Teacher's Workroom through the end of the day today, November 20th, for those who pre-ordered a shirt.  If you didn't pre-order a shirt, you may come by today to purchase available extras.  Short-sleeved shirts will sell for $12.00; long-sleeve for $15.00; and hoodies for $30.00.  Extras will be sold on a "first-come first-served" basis.  And payment must be made at the time of pick-up.

--Seniors applying to colleges and universities with January deadlines are reminded that your College Application Checklist, with $4.00 for each application, must be submitted to your counselor before December 8th.  That gives your counselor two weeks to meet your application deadline of January 1st.

Events

--Student Expression Night will be held on the evening of Wednesday, December 16th, in the Theater.  Individuals/Groups are invited to perform music, poetry, and drama at the event.  Auditions will be held on December 1st from 2:30-5:00 PM in the Library.  Proceeds will benefit Brooke Point's literary magazine, "The Collective Mind."

Clubs

--LifeSmarts practice will be held every Tuesday and Thursday in Room 117 from 2:30-3:00 PM.

Sports

--There will be a mandatory meeting of boys and girls interested in playing tennis in the spring today, November 20th, at 2:20 PM in Room 234.  The meeting will inclujde discussions of conditioning, try-outs, and the tennis season in general.

Academic

--Sophomores planning to complete the Full IB Diploma are reminded to meet with Ms. Stemple during your lunch today, November 20th, to discuss scheduling.  You should plan to pick up your lunch and then head straight to Room 213.

--The Knowledge Master's Open Team is currently forming.  if you'd like to see how you stack up to other high schools around the U.S. and the world in your mastery of academic trivia, you'll want to stop by and sign up for the team by December 1st.  The competition is on December 2nd.

Special

--There are no new special announcements today.

Lunch

--Your Friday cafeteria menu features either Turkey Roast Dinner or Tuna Wraps with Lettuce and an Ice Cream Cup for dessert.

 Sam Buczek's Music Review

This week Sam is checking out the top five for rock up on the Billboard chart.  Big rock names like Breaking Benjamin, Alice in Chains, and Foo Fighters each made it into the list, and one of them is the Number One.  A feature biography and videos are presented for the winner; so press View Video to see who's on top.   Also check for concert names like Weezer, Downtown Countdown and Bon Jovi.

Wil Rodriguez's Movie Review

Wil reviews the new release, "The Box."  "The Box" is a thriller starring Cameron Diaz, James Marsden, and Frank Langella. This film is about a couple that get a box with a button on it.  If they press the button, they will get 1 million dollars.  But there's a catch -- if they press the button, then someone in the world they don't know will die.  This movie is directed by the director of "Donnie Darko."  For more on this and other movie news, click on the "View Video" link.

BP-13's "Gaming Review" with Sean Basinger

Sean Basinger reviews the latest releases in the world of video games.  This week, Sean reviews "Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2".  In this adventure, the player must choose a superhero team after the heroes break off into two teams when the government tries to force them to work as government agents.  For all the details, click on the "View Video" link.
